Purple Knights Help Raise Awareness for Cancer and Mental Health.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Northeast 10 Conference institutions keep finding ways to make a positive impact in the community, with the latest example being Saint Michael’s this past weekend when it held special awareness events to help support Hope Happens Here, the American Cancer Society and pediatric cancer.

The Purple Knights’ swimming and diving program held a Mental Health Awareness Meet on Friday against Saint Rose, in conjunction with Hope Happens Here – a group started at Saint Michael’s that focuses on mental health awareness in college students, with an emphasis on student-athletes.

On Saturday, the basketball teams hosted Adelphi and supported a pair of good causes. Both the men’s and women’s programs hosted a Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Game, which is a nationwide collaboration between the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the American Cancer Society to raise cancer awareness.

In addition – the basketball teams took part in Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, an initiative started by Go4theGoal to help support the work the organization does for families of children battling cancer. The players wore gold shoelaces as part of the event.

NE10 athletics programs are committed to the highest level of community service standards, with several other institutions also taking part in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers this season, as well as numerous other causes.
