COLCHESTER, Vt. - As part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Saint Michael's women's basketball team participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Sunday, Oct. 14, for the ninth consecutive year.

The Purple Knights took part in the 11th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Northern Vermont, an American Cancer Society-sponsored walk in South Burlington's Veterans Memorial Park. Women's basketball continues accepting online donations, with all funds raised going directly to the American Cancer Society. The Purple Knights were fourth in fundraising among 71 teams. Visit makingstrideswalk.org/northernvt for more information regarding the local walk.

Since 1993, more than 12 million participants across the United States have raised more than $750 million through Making Strides walks. In 2017, 1.4 million walkers across the country joined the American Cancer Society to raise more than $60 million through Making Strides events. MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. Each event is a noncompetitive 3 to 5 mile walk that brings people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. The events raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable.
