NE10 Looking for First NCAA Field Hockey Championship Since 2010.
MANSFIELD, Mass. - Eight programs from the Northeast 10 Conference will be represented this weekend in Pittsburgh, as NCAA Division II holds its National Championships Festival as hosted by SportsPITTSBURGH, Clarion and Slippery Rock. A pair of teams, AIC volleyball and Pace field hockey, will compete on Thursday afternoon to keep their national title hopes alive, as six champions will be named on Saturday. The NE10 produced six cross country programs, four for the men's side and two from the women's side, to compete on Saturday as well.
Field Hockey
Pace punched a ticket to Pittsburgh to play in the NCAA semifinals after a 6-1 win over Saint Anselm in the opening round, recording the program's first-ever postseason win. The Setters will play No. 2 East Stroudsburg, the 2015 NCAA Champion, with a trip to the title game on the line. In the regular season, Pace went undefeated in conference play to earn the NE10 regular season championship and top seed in the league tournament. Pace's matchup with East Stroudsburg will take place today at 5 p.m. at Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field and the game can be followed HERE.
Volleyball
American International College is the lone survivor after a competitive East Regional at the University of New Haven, as the Yellow Jackets won the region with a straight-set victory over Holy Family and now proceed to the NCAA quarterfinals to face top-seeded Tampa. It is the second time in the last three seasons that AIC has reached the NCAA quarters, after winning the East Region back in 2016. The Yellow Jackets were the No. 3 seed in the NE10 Championship, reaching the final at Adelphi. Today's match with Tampa begins at 5 p.m. and can be followed HERE.
Cross Country
Six NE10 cross country programs qualified for the NCAA Championship on Saturday, with the NE10 champion Southern Connecticut State men's team and Stonehill women's team leading the way. Joining the Owls is AIC, Southern New Hampshire and Stonehill on the men's side, while Merrimack also qualified on the women's side. In addition, Chris Davitt from Le Moyne, Kialeigh Marston from Assumption and Christine Myers from Saint Rose will compete individually in the races after qualifying in the regional round. The men's race is Saturday at 11 a.m., while the women's race begins at 12:15 p.m. at Schenley Park. Live and on-demand coverage of the races is being produced by FloTrack.com.
