NE10 Mourns the Loss of Legendary Golf Coach Archie Boulet

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Longtime Bryant Head Coach was Inducted into the NE10 Hall of Fame in 2016.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Archie Boulet, legendary men’s golf coach and faculty member at Bryant University, passed away on December 15. He was 85.

Boulet founded the men’s golf program at Bryant in 1964, staying at the helm for 47 years before retiring in the spring of 2011. In addition to coaching, he was a professor for 38 years and served as the Chair of the Science Department for 19 years.

Bryant, a member of the Northeast 10 Conference from the league’s inception in 1979 through 2008, enjoyed unprecedented success in men’s golf under Boulet. The Bulldogs won 20 NE10 Championships in less than three decades as a league member, while Boulet was a record 18-time recipient of NE10 Coach of the Year.

One of Boulet’s most successful runs in the NE10 was a nine-year streak of league titles from 1983-91. He won 20 of the conference’s first 27 golf championships, winning as recently as a three-year stretch from 2003-05.

Boulet built Bryant into a golf powerhouse, both in the Division II ranks and when the school made its move to Division I as a member of the Northeast Conference. He coached 23 All-Americans and seven New England Golfers of the Year during his time with the Bulldogs.

Postseason success was synonymous with Boulet’s teams, as he recorded 11 New England Championships and 10 NCAA top-20 finishes - qualifying for 20 NCAA Championships in total, including a string of 14-straight appearances from 1995-2008.

He is a member of eight separate Hall of Fames, including the NE10 Hall of Fame in the Class of 2016. His inductions also include the National Golf Coaches Association of America, the University of Rhode Island Athletics Hall of Fame and the Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Boulet was a three-sport athlete at the University of Rhode Island, earning varsity letters in football and golf, while earning Yankee Conference all-star honors as a freshman player on the baseball team. He graduated from URI in 1954.

The Archie Boulet Scholarship, an endowed scholarship for a men’s golfer at Bryant University, was established in his honor in 2012.
