Embrace the Championship: SCSU Men, Stonehill Women Lead After Day One

Owls and Skyhawks Lead the Pack at Smith College.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut men’s and Stonehill women’s indoor track & field programs will take a lead into Sunday, following strong performances on the first day of the Northeast 10 Conference Championships on Saturday at Smith College. Team scores are listed below.

The Owls, picked to win the NE10 title according to the Coaches’ Poll, recorded 86 points on the first day – holding a big advantage over second place American International (30) and third place New Haven (25). The Skyhawks, also picked first in the Coaches’ Poll, hold a narrow 56-48 edge over Assumption.

Stonehill’s Olivia Dexter won the 60 meter dash (7.62) and the Skyhawks ended the night with a victory in the distance medley, recording a time of 12:03.51. SCSU was led by Milan Spisek in the pole vault (5.02 meters) and three top-five finishers in the weight throw.

Seven records were set on Saturday, including AIC’s Serge Gilbert in the 60 meter hurdles (7.90) and Franklin Pierce’s CeCe Telfer in the 60 meter hurdles (8.54).
