Six NE10 Players Named First Team All-Region.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – American International’s Dana Watts has been selected the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East Region Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, highlighting the Northeast 10 Conference’s 11 men’s and women’s student-athletes to earn D2CCA recognition this week.
Nominating and voting for the awards was conducted by the sports information directors at the 39 institutions that comprise the three conferences in the East Region – the Northeast 10, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and East Coast Conference (ECC).
Watts had a remarkable senior season for the Yellow Jackets, averaging 21.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game – on her way to being named NE10 Player of the Year. She ends her career as the all-time leading scorer in AIC women’s basketball history with 2,202 points. Watts also earned a spot on the All-Region First Team, the third-consecutive year she has accomplished the feat.
Two other NE10 players join Watts, as Saint Anselm’s Shannon Ryan and Southern Connecticut’s Kiana Steinauer both received First Team honors. The league had three players earn Second Team status with Le Moyne’s McKayla Roberts, Merrimack’s Denia Davis-Stewart and Southern New Hampshire’s Kylie Lorenzen.
On the men’s side, three players earned D2CCA First Team recognition, led by NE10 Player of the Year Tim Guers from Saint Anselm – now a three-time selection to the All-Region First Team. Merrimack’s Juvaris Hayes and Bentley’s Ryan Richmond join Guers on the First Team – two players who also earned All-Region awards last season.
Southern Connecticut’s Isaiah McLeod and Southern New Hampshire’s Daquaise Andrews – a pair of NE10 First Team players - landed on the Second Team.
