FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DeFelice Has Served as Bentley Baseball Coach for 52 Seasons.

“On This Date” in 1969, Bob DeFelice began his tenure as head coach of the newly-formed Bentley baseball program and won a 3-2 contest over Boston State in 11 innings, a day that marked the start of a career that has lasted over half a century in Waltham, Mass.

DeFelice entered his 52nd season at the helm for the Falcons in the 2020 season, leading them to a 5-9 record through 14 games prior to the cancellation of spring sports. He has won 814 games in the past 52 years, a total that ranks third in New England Division II history, and he is currently the longest tenured active college baseball coach in the country.

Since 1991, DeFelice has also served as the Director of Athletics at Bentley, just the second person to hold that position in school history.

Bentley was a founding member of the Northeast-10 Conference in 1980, and over the past 38 baseball seasons, the Falcons have finished in the top half of the league standings on 23 occasions – including a pair of appearances in the NE10 championship game.

DeFelice has been inducted into eight halls of fame in his career, including from Boston College in 1986 – his alma mater where he played baseball and graduated from in 1963. In 1965, he began a three-year playing career in the Boston Red Sox minor league organization before he started coaching at Bentley.

Maloof Had 11 Strikeouts in Perfect Game.

“On This Date” in 2014, Southern New Hampshire junior pitcher Ali Maloof tossed her second-career perfect game to shut out Saint Michael’s, 5-0, in the first game of an NE10 doubleheader. Maloof started both games that day, racking up 15 strikeouts in 11 innings of work in the circle.

Maloof, a native of Norwood, Mass., recorded 11 strikeouts against the Purple Knights as part of retiring all 21 batters who came to the plate. It was just two years earlier in her freshman season that Maloof posted her first perfect game – as well as the first in program history – with a 10-0, five-inning win over Saint Rose on April 14, 2012.

In one of the most storied careers in league softball history, Maloof was named a three-time NE10 Pitcher of the Year – as well as the 2015 Player of the Year for her dual hitting and pitching performance – while leading the Penmen to back-to-back NE10 titles in 2014 and 2015.

Maloof currently sits second in the all-time NE10 record book in career strikeouts (808) and fifth in innings pitched (711.0). She was a two-time recipient of the Daktronics/Division II CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year (2014, 2015) and a one-time East Region Player of the Year (2015).
