Assumption Welcomes Scott Faucher as Next Men's Basketball Coach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Greyhounds Announce Hiring of Faucher on Tuesday.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption College President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. and Director of Athletics Jamie Marcoux are pleased to announce the hiring of Scott Faucher as the 17th head coach of the Assumption men's basketball program. Faucher, a dynamic coach and rising star in the industry, comes to Assumption from Nichols College following a record-breaking season with the Bison.

"Today, I am pleased to officially mark the beginning of a new era in the storied history of the Assumption College Men's Basketball program," said Assumption College President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. "Today, we look forward to a period of rebuilding under the enthusiastic leadership of Coach Scott Faucher. Today, we look forward to a future of an Assumption College Men's Basketball team that evolves into a competitive force in the NE-10 Conference, a force that draws upon its past to build for the future."

"We are excited to welcome Scott to Assumption," said Marcoux. "He has had success at every institution in which he has worked, guiding his programs to winning seasons every year. In addition to victories on the court, he has always made sure his student-athletes excelled in the classroom and contributed in a number of meaningful ways to the campus community. Scott's impressive resume, record of accomplishment and coaching philosophy that puts first the development and needs of the student-athlete for the benefit of the team define the type of coach we sought in the next individual to lead our men's basketball program."

Faucher takes over the Assumption men's basketball program following the most successful season in the history of Nichols basketball. In his lone season with the Division III Bison, he led the team to an appearance in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals. The team finished the year ranked eighth in the nation with a 28-3 overall record. This team won 17 straight games during the season on its way to a conference championship, while also achieving a 5-0 record against teams from the NESCAC. Faucher coached the program's first All-American, who was named to the second-team, while four players in total were selected as All-Conference. In addition to the team's success on the court, the program posted its highest GPA over the past five seasons this year.

Following the season, Faucher was selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as one its 2019 Under Armour 30-Under-30, representing 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30. He was one of only three non-Division I head coaches named to the prestigious list.

"I am thrilled to join the community at Assumption College," said Faucher. "I'd like to thank President Francesco Cesareo, Vice President of Enrollment Rob Mirabile, Director of Athletics Jamie Marcoux, and the entire search committee for entrusting me to lead the men's basketball program. I am honored and humbled to be able to join an institution with such a rich tradition of excellence in liberal arts education and athletics. I look forward to working with our student-athletes to build a program that will bring pride to the entire community.

Prior to his appointment at Nichols, Faucher spent four seasons as a full-time assistant coach at Division III Bowdoin College, a member of the NESCAC. His teams never posted a losing season over his four years with the program and finished with an overall mark of 57-39. During that span, the team produced a NESCAC Player of the Year, NESCAC Rookie of the Year and five of Faucher's recruits cracked the starting lineup as underclassmen. At Bowdoin, he led all opponent scouting reports while also being heavily involved in practice planning and on-court demonstrations.

Faucher spent his first season as a college coach at Saint Michael's College. In his lone year with the Purple Knights they posted an 18-9 record, the best mark for the program since 2001. He was responsible for all recruiting efforts while also leading fundraising efforts and preparing opposing team scouting reports during his season with the team.

A native of Lebanon, N.H., Faucher received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2013 from Wheaton (MA) College. He was a four-year member of the Lyons basketball program, appearing in 98 games during his career. Away from the collegiate basketball scene, he is the founder and director of both the Lebanon Longhorns AAU program and the Drills for Skills program. He is also the son of former Dartmouth College head coach Dave Faucher, who served as the head coach of the Big Green from 1991-2004.
