Embrace the Learning: 10 Student-Athletes Honored as NE10 Spring Sport Excellence Award Winners

Sport Excellence Awards Handed Out for 2018-19 Spring Season.


MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast 10 Conference released its Sport Excellence Award winners for the 2018-19 spring season on Wednesday afternoon, as 10 student-athletes were honored for their outstanding achievements in athletics and in the classroom.

Of the 98 student-athletes that were named to Academic All-Conference Teams on Tuesday, 10 were voted – one from each respective sport – as the top selections among the group.

To be qualified for Academic All-Conference and Sport Excellence honors, a student-athlete must have started at least half or played in two-thirds of all contests while making significant contributions and maintaining a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

One of the league’s most prestigious awards, the Sport Excellence Award winners come from six different schools. Merrimack led all schools with three selections, as Krystal Knight (women’s golf), Mana Seifaei (women’s tennis) and Charlie Bertrand (Merrimack) were honored. Le Moyne and Southern New Hampshire each had two honorees apiece.

SNHU’s Tiago Fernandes (men’s tennis) and Jake Walkinshaw (baseball) were selected, as were Nicholas Barney (men’s golf) and Bryanna Fazio (women’s lacrosse) from Le Moyne. Rounding out the elite group is Adelphi’s Ally Muller (softball), Saint Rose’s Christine Myers (women’s track & field) and Stonehill’s Alex Demeule (men’s track & field).

Named to Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team. Selected to compete in the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional as an individual. Named NE10 Second-Team All-Conference and placed third at NE10 Conference Championship with a 142. Posted a stroke average of 75.7.

Selected to Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team. Placed 19th at the NCAA National Championships and was named as a 2019 WGCA All-America Honorable Mention. 2018-19 NE10 Player of the Year and earned medalist honors at the NE10 Championship. Selected as NE10 First-Team All-Conference after a stroke average of 73.9 this year.

Selected as the Google Cloud CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American of the Year & was a First-Team Academic All-America honoree. Named USILA National Player of Year and Attackman of the Year in leading Merrimack to its second straight NCAA Championship. Also honored as a First-Team All-American and NE10 Player of Year. Totaled 97 points on 78 goals and 19 assists while leading the nation in points per game and goals per game.

Selected as the NE10 Scholar Athlete of the Year & NE10 Elite 24 Award Winner. Earned Google Cloud CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America honors. Named IWLCA First-Team All-America and WLCA East All-Region First-Team. Selected as NE10 Attacker of the Year and First-Team All-Conference. Totaled 94 points on 66 goals and 28 assists with 151 draw controls.

Ally Muller

Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District selection & NE10 Elite 24 Award Winner. Named First-Team All-Conference as well as to the D2CCA East All-Region Second Team. Posted a 21-9 record with a 1.81 ERA in 201.0 innings. Threw 29 complete games during the season, including one no-hitter.

Named to Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team. Named the ITA East Region & NE10 Player of the Year. First-Team All-Conference at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles. Went 21-5 in singles action to finish with 80 career victories. Helped team win first-ever NCAA East Region Championship and reach NCAA Championship Round of 16.

Earned NE10 Elite 24 Award at NE10 Championship. Selected as NE10 Academic All-Conference. Posted a 16-16 record during the season and was third on the team with 12 wins in doubles.

Selected as 2019 NE10 Man of the Year. Named Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District. Placed fourth in the 5000 meters (15:19.28) at the NE10 Championships while placing second in the 1500 meters at the Skyhawk Invitational (4:02.94)

Christine Myers

Women’s Track & Field

Criminal Justice, Behavior, and Law

Named Google Cloud Academic All-District. Earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 5000 meters and 10000 meters. Won the NE10 Outdoor Championship in the 10000 meters (37:47.29) and placed second in the 5000 meters (17:46.79).
