Embrace the Learning: Bentley's Jack Hansbury Captures NE10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hansbury Takes Home Male Scholar-Athlete Honor.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Recent Bentley Summa Cum Laude graduate Jack Hansbury was named the Northeast-10 Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Monday night when the conference held its annual Year-End Awards Banquet at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Hansbury is the first Bentley student-athlete to receive the prestigious award since men's soccer standout Weston Zeiner in 2013 and the first NE10 football player to be selected as the conference's top male senior student-athlete since Assumption College's Nick DiAntonio a year before that.

The 2018 Bentley co-captain started every game on the offensive line during his final three seasons and played in every game for the Falcons since his arrival on campus in 2015.

Hansbury's list of honors included first-team Google Cloud Division II Academic All-America and Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award for football as the conference's premier scholar-athlete in the sport.  Three times he was voted to the Academic All-Northeast-10 team, and he was also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy.

Just as he never missed a game during his career, Hansbury never missed being named to the President's List. He concluded his collegiate career with a spectacular 3.95 grade point average as a corporate finance and accounting major.

Bentley head football coach Bill Kavanaugh, in his presentation remarks Monday night, said that "right from the start, Jack led by example.

"Jack was obviously smart, but he set himself apart with consistency, discipline and toughness, working his way into the starting lineup midway through his freshman year. Since that time, Jack didn't miss a start in 31 straight games. That statistic doesn't just happen, especially for an offensive lineman.

"I would bet that never missing a practice in four years may happen every now and then on certain teams with certain players, but I don't believe many of those athletes balanced exactly what Jack did each day though his time here at Bentley," said Kavanaugh.
