Stonehill Leads Charge with Five Honorees
Capital One Academic All-Americans TF/XC
AUSTIN, Texas – Nine Northeast-10 student-athletes have been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America track & field/cross country teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Six women’s track & field/cross country student-athletes were selected as Academic All-Americans, as well as three on the men’s side. In total, the NE-10 had five garner second team honors and four more collecting third team accolades.
Stonehill led the charge with five selections – three on the men’s second team and two on the women’s third team. New Haven also had a pair of women’s track & field stars, while Merrimack and Southern Connecticut each had one apiece.
Representing the Skyhawks on the second team were Trent Fontanella, Nick Kirkpatrick and Bryan Wilcox. All three were third team selections a year ago.
Fontanella garnered a 3.7 grade-point average studying criminology and psychology. Kirkpatrick, a junior electrical engineering major, collected a 3.75 GPA. Wilcox, who was named the NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner in both men’s indoor and outdoor track & field, earned a 3.71 GPA as an accounting major.
Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro and New Haven’s Ada Udaya were the pair of second team choices on the women’s side. Muscaro, a criminology major with a 3.8 GPA, was this year’s NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner for women’s outdoor track & field as a sophomore. Udaya, a 16-time track & field All-American and third team Academic All-American last year, garnered a GPA of 3.35 as a biology/pre-med major.
Emily Anderson and Trisha Pierson represented Stonehill on the women’s third team. Anderson collected a GPA of 3.59 while studying early childhood education. Pierson, the NE-10 Sport Excellence Award recipient in women’s indoor track & field this year, earned a 3.99 GPA as an accounting major.
New Haven’s Ivy Watts and Southern Connecticut’s Crystle Hill also earned third team accolades. The Northeast-10 Co-Woman of the Year, Watts landed on the third team for the second year in a row after earning a 3.97 GPA as a criminal justice major. Hill collected a GPA of 3.52 while studying mathematics as a sophomore.
