NE10 Announces Prestigious Academic Honors for Fall Semester

86 NE10 Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference teams and Sport Excellence Award winners for the 2016 Fall season have been released, the conference office announced today.

A total of 86 fall sport student-athletes collected NE10 Academic All-Conference accolades. That total is up from 79 during the Fall 2015 semester. Additionally, one Sport Excellence Award winner was chosen from the following seven sports: men's and women's cross country; field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.

To be eligible for selection to the NE10 Academic All-Conference teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

Each of the league’s 15 member institutions, and the league's associate member - LIU Post - had at least one Academic All-Conference choice. Adelphi had the most student-athletes recognized with 13, followed by Stonehill with 11, and Bentley with eight. More than half of the league's members had at least five recognized.

The seven Sport Excellence award winners (one in each sport) represented six different schools, with Adelphi being the lone institution to have more than one.

           

American International's Mitchell Byrne was selcted as the NE10 Sport Excellence award winner for the second straight fall in the sport of Cross Country. He is one of two repeat honorees. The junior is a 3.81 student-athlete, majoring in accounting. Byrne was a First Team All-Conference selection after finishing third at the NE10 Championship's this past fall.

Senior Rachel Avard from Assumption is a 3.93 student, majoring in chemistry. She finished 23rd at the NE10 Championship's and then 34th in the NCAA East Regionals to help the Greyhounds advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. She has been named to the school's honor roll during each of her seven semesters.

Rachel Colvin from Adelphi was the Sport Excellence award winner in the sport of Field Hockey. The senior defenseman has a 3.841 GPA in Biochemistry, and was named the NE10 Defenseman of the Year in 2015, as well as a 2nd Team All-American this past fall.

Bentley's Bryan Hardy was selected in the sport of football. The senior linebacker is a 3.72 student, double-majoring in Economics and Finance. He led the NE10 in tackles this past fall, finishing 14th in all of NCAA Division II. Hardy was named a 1st Team CoSIDA Academic All-America, and has been named to Bentley's President's List during each of the last six semesters. 

Jaime Cortes Torres from Merrimack was selected for the prestigious honor in the sport of soccer. The native of Spain has a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in International Business. This past fall, he was an All NE10 Second Team selection, as well as a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American.

Drew Ribadeneyra of Pace earned the award in women's soccer. The junior back is a 3.88 student-athelte focusing on Biological Psychology. She led a Setters' backline that tied the team record with nine shutouts this past fall leading to her selection as the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year. Off the field, Ribadeneyra was named a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American

Adelphi's Mandy Stanislovaitis repeats as the Sport Excellence Award winner as the senior outside-hitter is a 3.951 student majoring in Exercise Science. This past season she was seventh in the league in kills and helped lead the Panthers to an NCAA Tournament berth. The CoSIDA Academic All-District selection finished second in career kills in program history.
