Merrimack's Carly Muscaro Named NE10 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Senior sprinter Carly Muscaro of the track & field program became the first Merrimack student-athlete in eight years to earn a year-end award from the Northeast-10 Conference as the Warriors' six-time national champion was named the NE10 Female Outstanding Scholar Athlete of the Year on Sunday evening at the conference's year-end banquet held at Gillette Stadium.

Muscaro's list of accomplishments and accolades expanded on Sunday, becoming the first Warrior to be honored at the NE10's annual year-end banquet since women's soccer star Caitlin Hall '09 took home the same honor following the 2008-09 academic year. The four-time national champion in 2016-17 alone, Muscaro graduated this spring with a 3.88 GPA in criminology.

Academically, Muscaro adds Scholar Athlete of the Year to a resume that includes five NE10 Academic All-Conference selections and four Sports Excellence Awards as the top scholar-athlete among the NE10's member institutions during the indoor/outdoor women's track & field campaigns. She also boasts three College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District selections, and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Winning the 200-meter and 400-meter national titles at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships just two weeks ago, Muscaro finished her senior season with four national championships after triumphing in the same events during her indoor season. Including her indoor and outdoor 400-meter national championships as a junior, she finished her career with six titles overall and graduates from Merrimack as the most decorated student-athlete at the national level in NE10 history.

Other accolades for Muscaro include her recognition as a 12-time All-American, the most in Merrimack history by any student-athlete. This season she was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Track Athlete of the Year during both the indoor and outdoor campaigns to go along with her five selections over her career as the USTFCCCA Regional Track Athlete of the Year. Muscaro also graduated from Merrimack as an eight-time USTFCCCA All-East Region honoree and boasted two USTFCCCA All-Academic selections.

Pending honors for Muscaro include a third CoSIDA Academic All-American selection. If she achieves this feat, she will become the fourth three-time Academic All-American in school history and first in 22 years. She also has a chance to receive her sixth NE10 Academic All-Conference honor and fifth Sports Excellence Award when the conference announces its springs honorees later this summer. Muscaro has won back-to-back Sports Excellence Awards for the outdoor season, dating back to her sophomore year.
