NE-10 Represented on CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large, Baseball, Softball and Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

AUSTIN, Texas – Thirteen Northeast-10 student-athletes from the sports of baseball, field hockey, men’s swimming and diving, softball, track & field/cross country and women’s lacrosse were recently honored as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Student-athletes from seven different NE-10 institutions received the honor this spring. Adelphi led the way with three selections, while Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne, Southern Connecticut and Stonehill each had two apiece, and both Bentley and Merrimack had one each.
With 13 honorees this spring, the NE-10 caps the 2015-16 academic year with a total of 27 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, as the league had 10 in the fall and four more in the winter. Of the 13 recent selections, two earned first team accolades, five picked up second team honors and six collected third team laurels. The most NE-10 honorees came from the sport of women’s track & field/cross country with three.
The league’s lone softball representative was Adelphi infielder Brenna Martini, who was honored with first team accolades. Martini, the NE-10 Player of the Year and Sport Excellence Award winner in just her sophomore season, was also named a first team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) this spring. The conference also had eight softball student-athletes pick up CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as well.
A pair of NE-10 baseball student-athletes from NCAA East Regional Champion Franklin Pierce represented the conference with CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition. Pitcher Tanner Bird, recently tabbed as the league’s Sport Excellence Award winner in baseball, garnered second team plaudits, while teammate Justin Brock picked up third team honors. Just as with softball, eight baseball players from the NE-10 were also selected as CoSIDA Academic All-District choices.
The NE-10 had five earn At-Large selections as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans with four on the women’s side and one on the men’s front. Two women’s lacrosse student-athletes received second team laurels in conference Player of the Year Jacqueline Jahelka of Adelphi and NE-10 Woman of the Year Maggie Monnat of Le Moyne. A pair of field hockey players were also recognized, as Adelphi’s Molly Cuevas and Stonehill’s Sarah Morse both picked up third team accolades. Timothy Buff of the Le Moyne men’s swimming and diving team was also a third team choice. The league had 16 student-athletes land on the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large teams with eight picked on both the men’s and women’s teams.
Most recently, five NE-10 student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country teams. Three were selected to the women’s teams, as Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro led the way as a first team choice. Muscaro adds to her impressive resume after winning national titles during both the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons this year. Southern Connecticut’s Crystle Hill and Stonehill’s Trisha Pierson landed second teams honors, while Bentley’s Sean Nee and Southern Connecticut’s Dean Bhatt claimed third team plaudits on the men’s side. Additionally, 18 from the NE-10 took home CoSIDA Academic All-District honors with 10 men’s and eight women’s selections.
