Nearly 3,200 achieve 3.0 GPA or higher during spring
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The
Northeast-10 Conference announced its Commissioner’s Honor
Roll for the Spring 2014 semester on Wednesday morning, as
approximately 57 percent of all Northeast-10 student-athletes
posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
In total, 3,159 student-athletes received Commissioner’s
Honor Roll (CHR) recognition for the spring.
The Northeast-10 CHR program recognizes the conference’s
student-athletes for their achievements within the classroom. In
order to be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have met
or exceeded a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the spring.
Bentley University led the 15 Northeast-10 member institutions
with 359 student-athletes recognized, finishing second only to
Adelphi University in terms of percentage at 71 percent. Adelphi,
the Northeast-10 Presidents’ Cup winner for the second
straight year, saw 72 percent of its student-athletes named to the
Spring CHR.
Eleven of the conference’s schools had percentages above 50
percent, while Southern New Hampshire University (64%), The College
of Saint Rose (63%), Le Moyne College (61%) and the University of
New Haven (60%) all topped the 60-percent threshold.
Among those honored, 156 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0
GPA for the semester, up from 120 in the fall. Adelphi had 16
student-athletes post a 4.0, while both American International
College and Merrimack College had 15 student-athletes reach the 4.0
mark.
By sport, football had the highest number of student-athletes
selected (284), followed by women’s soccer (254), baseball
(228), women’s lacrosse (225) and women’s track &
field (222).
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA
Division II colleges and universities located in New England and
New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and
athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each
year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference
championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII
conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading
the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community,
the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the
experience it provides student-athletes.
