Nearly 69 percent of Northeast-10
athletic programs post 3.0 GPA or higher

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced its 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Awards on Tuesday, which recognizes the program achieving the highest team grade point average in each of the conference’s 23 varsity sports throughout the academic year. In all, nearly 69 percent of all teams across the Northeast-10 posted team GPA's of 3.0 or higher.

Ten of the 15 Northeast-10 member institutions had at least one winner, paced by Adelphi University, which led the way with seven different programs collecting Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence Awards. Bentley University followed with six of its teams garnering the prestigious academic distinction, while Pace University and Southern New Hampshire University both had two programs recognized.

The highest GPA among the 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Awards went to the Adelphi softball team, which posted a collective 3.683 GPA in the classroom on their way to an NCAA Regional berth last month.

For Bentley, 21 of its 22 Northeast-10 programs achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in 2013-14, while Adelphi had 18 of 21 teams surpass the benchmark. Le Moyne College saw 13 of 16 programs do the same.

Four sports across the Northeast-10 landscape – women’s cross country, women’s swimming & diving and both women’s indoor and outdoor track & field – saw all of its programs post team GPA's of 3.0 or higher.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
