Embrace the Impact: SCSU Student-Athletes Assist With Campus-Wide "Friends of Rudolph" Event

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 19, 2016

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut athletic department was well-represented at the "Friends of Rudolph" event, which brings more than 1,200 individuals to campus each December.

Student-athletes from the field hockey and gymnastics teams were on-site to lend a hand. In addition, the athletic department also collected toys during the early part of the month as part of a toy contribution for youngsters at the event.

“It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to interact with so many kids and see all of the smiles on their faces. Everyone was really in the holiday spirit," said sophomore field hockey player Kya O’Donnell

"In addition, it was awesome to see university staff, faculty, students and especially the SCSU police department come together to put on such a great event!”

This event is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes take part in on an annual basis. SCSU student-athletes volunteered more than 2,000 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2015-16 academic year.
