Embrace The Community: Le Moyne Partners with Maureen's Hope for Charitable Ticket Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Le Moyne Athletics is proud to announce the details for this year's Charitable Ticket Program that will feature the Maureen's Hope Foundation.

Maureen's Hope, based in Baldwinsville, N.Y., offers direct support and assistance to people facing a cancer diagnosis or other life altering disease. The foundation's mission is to provide a vision that is not just about achieving a desired outcome, but making the journey for the family a little easier.

"Many of the programs and services we offer through Maureen's Hope are about helping patients to feel connected, so they know they are not alone in their fight," said Susan Bertrand, President & Founder of Maureen's Hope.  "Having the support of Le Moyne Athletics and our greater community helps to strengthen that bond. Le Moyne student-athletes are all participating in our Carry a Bead program to share their personal strength and encouragement with hospitalized children and this is truly human solidarity at it's finest."

The Beads of Courage program is a tangible way for pediatric oncology and hematology patients to record, share and tell their story through commemorative beads they receive for every treatment and milestone endured.  The Carry a Bead program is a way to let these children know they are being thought of and that no one fights alone.  During the fall semester, every Le Moyne student-athlete will have the opportunity to participate in The Beads of Courage program by wearing a pinned bead during a game or practice that will accompany a note of encouragement and support. These beads will be then distributed in our local community so that patients know that they have the full support of the Le Moyne Dolphins behind them during their treatments.

In the program's fourth year, the Charitable Ticket Program was formed to partner with local organizations that serve a need within the community in the Jesuit spirit and Le Moyne College's mission of 'Men and Women of others', one of the primary tenants of the Inside the L program.

For the upcoming 2017-18 academic year, there is a change to the admission policy regarding the Charitable Ticket Program. Same as the previous three seasons, admission to soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball and softball games on campus will continue to be complimentary (excluding NE10 and NCAA Championship events). Beginning this November, admission for men's and women's basketball games will be $5 for adults and free for youth ages 12 and under. Additionally, Le Moyne College students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with campus ID.  A portion of every $5 ticket collected will go directly to support the Maureen's Hope Foundation and The Bead of Courage Program.

Both Le Moyne College and the Athletic Department have a long-standing history of supporting local charitable organizations. Each year, student-athletes volunteer thousands of hours throughout the Central New York community supporting events and raising awareness of organizations in the Jesuit ideals and principles of men and women for others.
