Embrace The Community: Franklin Pierce Women’s Basketball Raises Money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

RINDGE, N.H. – The Franklin Pierce women's basketball team took part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One Walk recently. The JDRF One Walk is a fun, family-friendly event where dedicated walkers, volunteers, and sponsors raise money to make living with Type 1 Diabetes safer and healthier—until it is no longer a threat. JDRF's mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

The team raised a total of $1,615 in less than a month as they got family, fans, and supporters to sponsor them in the walk. The money that the Ravens raised goes straight to the JDRF.

The walk began and finished at the DCR Hatch Shell in Boston on the bank of the Charles River. There were hundreds of sponsors and volunteers who hosted tents to provide water, snacks, tee-shirts and T1D research material to the walkers. Boston 25 News emceed the event as they welcomed the thousands who came out to volunteer and participate in the walk itself.

Members of the women's hoops squad headed out on the 5K walk in their rain boots and Franklin Pierce Women's Basketball rain jackets. They had a great time meeting Type 1 Diabetics, researchers, families and other supporters for the cause. In total, the JDRF One Walk raised $890,763 which will all be going to the care are research of Type 1 Diabetes.
