Portsmouth, N.H. – Senior Christina Cuffari of The College of Saint Rose and Assumption College senior Nick DiAntonio (pictured) have been named the 2011-12 Northeast-10 Conference Outstanding Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

The two student-athletes were recognized at the Northeast-10 Awards Banquet Tuesday night in Portsmouth, N.H. after being selected by a committee made up of faculty members and athletic administrators.

Cuffari, an integral member of the women’s soccer team at Saint Rose, helped the Golden Knights claim the 2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship this past December. Saint Rose also made three appearances in the national semifinals throughout her playing career prior to winning the national title last fall. The Brick, N.J. native was also named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year as well as the 2011 East Region Player of the Year after totaling eight goals and 13 assists for 29 points during her senior season.

Cuffari has a 3.73 grade point average and was selected as a Capital One First Team All-American each of the past two years.  The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) also named her a First Team Scholar All-American this past fall after being chosen as a Second Team Scholar All-American in 2010.

She was also named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year Tuesday evening.

DiAntonio recently completed his career as a member of the football team at Assumption.  A team captain for the Greyhounds, he was named to the 2011 Northeast-10 First Team on the field after recording 106 tackles, including a 21-tackle performance against Southern Connecticut State University, which tied a school record.  He also finished the season ranked 13th in the nation in tackles per game (10.60).

Off the field, he was a unanimous choice as an Academic All-Conference selection, and also received the Northeast-10 Football Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award.

DiAntonio, a native of Milford, Mass., was the Valedictorian for Assumption’s Class of 2012 and was honored as a member of the National Football Foundation “Hampshire Honor Society,” which recognizes the top senior scholar-athletes in all levels of collegiate football.

He also was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, a prestigious award given to the top senior-athletes nationwide as well as the Rev. Armand Desautels A.A. Memorial Award, which is given annually to Assumption’s top senior student-athlete.

A double major in math and secondary education, DiAntonio graduated with a 4.0 GPA and currently attends Boston College, where he will pursue a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
