NE-10 Spring Student-Athletes Garner Postseason Accolades

National, Regional Honors Handed Out to NE-10 Student-Athletes

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Northeast-10 spring student-athletes from nine different sports recently received national and regional honors following the 2016 season. The NE-10 was well represented on All-America and All-Region teams in the sports of baseball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, softball and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, as well as regional honors in men’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.

The conference had 56 student-athletes earn All-America recognition this spring, including 26 first team selections. Additionally, the NE-10 had regional awards winners in baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, as well as outdoor track & field. Six NE-10 men’s and women’s lacrosse student-athletes also claimed major national postseason awards as well.

BASEBALL: NCBWA All-America | CCA All-America | NCBWA All-Region | CCA All-Region
Five NE-10 baseball student-athletes from Franklin Pierce and Southern New Hampshire garnered All-America honors, including one consensus All-American in Franklin Pierce’s Jay Jabs. The NE-10 Player of the Year earned the honor from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Jabs was chosen as a second team All-American by the NCBWA and Southern New Hampshire’s Tim Viehoff was an honorable mention selection. Three from Franklin Pierce earned second team honors from the CCA in Jabs, Anthony Matarazzo and Tanner Bird, while Viehoff landed third team laurels. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce’s Jabs, Bird and Paul Covelle were tabbed as ABCA/Rawlings third team All-Americans.

The league also had 19 student-athletes pick up All-East Region accolades as well, including a number of major regional award winners. Jabs came away as the consensus East Region Player of the Year, claiming the accolade from the NCBWA, CCA and ABCA. Viehoff was selected as the East Region Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA and CCA, while Southern New Hampshire’s Scott Loiseau was pegged as the NCBWA East Region Coach of the Year.

  

SOFTBALL: NFCA All-America | CCA All-America/All-Region | NFCA All-Region
Three NE-10 softball players collected All-America recognition by the CCA, while Adelphi’s Brenna Martini notched first team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Martini was also selected as a third team choice by the CCA, while fellow Panther Nicole Camera and Le Moyne’s Courtney Case picked up honorable mention laurels.

Twelve from the NE-10 were honored as All-East Region members as well. Nine were recognized by the NFCA and 11 were honored by the CCA. Also for the second straight year, Adelphi’s staff was selected as the NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of the Year after their return trip to the College World Series.

MEN’S LACROSSE: USILA All-America | Position Players of the Year
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) recently named 19 NE-10 men’s lacrosse student-athletes as USILA/Nike All-Americans, including six first team selections. Additionally, three picked up major positional awards from USILA as well.

National Champion Le Moyne had a trio pick up first team accolades in Brian Rogers, Alex Krawec and Brendan Entenmann. Merrimack’s Scott Corcoran and Ryan Poirier, as well as Adelphi’s Sal Tuttle, were also picked as first team All-Americans. Corcoran was tabbed with the Long Pole Midfielder Award, while Tuttle earned the LT. COL. J.I.(Jack) Turnbull Award as the outstanding attackman for the third straight year and Krawec repeated as the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award winner for most outstanding goalie.

The league also had four second team All-Americans, seven third team selections and a pair of honorable mention honorees. Tuttle, Poirier, Corcoran and Adelphi’s John English also represented the conference on the North team at the Div. I/II USILA/Nike North-South Game, which was won by the North.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE: IWLCA All-America | Position Players of the Year | All-Region
The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) named thirteen women’s lacrosse student-athletes from the NE-10 as All-Americans. Six picked up first team honors, three of which were recognized with IWLCA major positional awards.

Adelphi’s Jacqueline Jahelka, Ryley Weber and Rachel O’Brien, Le Moyne’s Erica Geremia and Vicki Graveline, along with New Haven’s Corinne Fisher, all notched first team honors. Four more claimed second team recognition and three others landed third team honors. Jahelka was tabbed as the Attacker of the Year, Weber was picked as the Defender of the Year, and Fisher shared Midfielder of the Year honors.

The league also had 27 represented on the IWLCA All-North Region teams, including nine first-teamers, seven second-teamers and 11 third-teamers. Nine seniors represented the NE-10 on the North squad in the 2016 North/South Senior All-Star game.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD: USTFCCCA All-America | All-Region | Regional Awards
Sixteen NE-10 outdoor track & field student-athlete received All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) after competing at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Ten women’s performers picked up All-America honors, while six more were recognized on the men’s side.

Picking up women’s first team accolades were Merrimack National Champion Carly Muscaro, Southern Connecticut’s Adriana Carrasco, Destiney Coward, Crystle Hill, Joy Padgett and Shatajah Wattely, as well as Stonehill’s Nicole Borofski. Claiming men’s first team accolades were American International’s Leakey Kipkosgei, Chad Miller and Horatio Pinnock, Merrimack’s John Braga, along with Southern Connecticut’s Tresley Dupont and Michael Lee.

It total, the 16 from the NE-10 accounted for 22 All-America honors. Muscaro (200/400m Dash) and Wattely (100/200m Dash/4x100) earned first team All-America nods in multiple events. The NE-10 also claimed 191 All-Region honors while dominating the USTFCCCA East Region major awards.

Kipkosgei and Muscaro were named East Region men’s and women’s Track Athletes of the Year, while Coward was pegged as the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. American International’s Leo Mayo was named East Region Men’s Coach of the Year, Stonehill’s Karen Boen claimed Women’s Coach of the Year, and Southern Connecticut’s Joe Van Gilder was tabbed Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

TENNIS: ITA Regional Awards
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recognized two women’s tennis student-athletes and one men’s tennis coach from the NE-10 with regional awards. Merrimack’s Mana Seifaei was selected as the Women’s East Region Rookie of the Year, while Southern New Hampshire’s Ashley Loft collected the Women’s East Region ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. On the men’s side, Southern New Hampshire’s Frank Campolo was tabbed as the East Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

GOLF: GCAA PING All-Region
The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) honored five NE-10 men’s golfers from three different schools with PING All-East Region accolades. Le Moyne’s John Clare and Aidan Fuller, Southern New Hampshire’s Gavin Dugas and Jake Nutter, as well as Bentley’s Malcolm Oliver, all earned All-Region plaudits.
