67 NE10 Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference teams and Sport Excellence Award winners for the 2017-18 winter sports season have been released, the conference office announced today. For a full list of honorees and further details about each of the seven sport excellence award winners, please see below.

A total of 67 winter sport student-athletes collected NE10 Academic All-Conference accolades. That total represents a diverse group of student-athletes representing 14 of the league's member institutions. Of the 67 that were recognized, 28 are repeat honorees from last year.

Additionally, one Sport Excellence Award winner was chosen from the following seven sports: men's and women's basketball; ice hockey, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's indoor track and field.

Bentley had the most student-athletes recognized with 10, followed by Stonehill with eight and Le Moyne with seven. The Falcons men's swimming team had five student-athletes honored, while both the men's and women's indoor track & field teams from American International each had three students named Academic All-Conference. The Saint Rose men's basketball team, which advanced to the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament, also had three honorees including Sport Excellence Award Winner Julian Lipinski.

The seven Sport Excellence award winners (one in each sport) represented five different schools, with New Haven and Pace each having two student-athletes honored with one of the league's most prestigious awards.    

To be eligible for selection to the NE10 Academic All-Conference teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; and 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)

             

Saint Rose's Lipinski was selected as the Sport Excellence Award Winner in the sport of Men's Basketball. The senior currently sports a 4.0 grade point averae and was named a First Team All-Conference selection this past season. The Australian native was a 2017 and 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team selection, as well as a member of the 2017 NE10 Academic All-Conference Team. 

New Haven's Alexandria Kerr earned the recognition for women's basketball. A junior, Kerr currently has a 3.89 grade point average while majoring in accounting. This season, she was a Second Team NE10 selection, while scoring the 1000th point and recording the 500th rebound of her career. She is a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and has been named to the NE10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll all five semesters at New Haven. She finished the Fall 2017 semester with a perfect 4.00 GPA.

The sport excellence award winner in the sport of ice hockey is Stonehill's Billy Palmer. The junior, majoring in marketing and graphic design with a 3.69 GPA, was among the league leaders in a number of categories this winter playing goalie for the Skyhawks. Palmer was a member of the 2017 NE10 All-Academic Team and was awarded the 2016 Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award.

Pace's Daniel Galarza was one of two Setters' swimming student-athletes to be recognized. Galarza, who is majoring in public accounting and currently has a 3.79 grade point average, posted three top-four finishes at the NE10 Championships this winter. He won the title in the 1650 meter swim, and set numerous school records this past season. He also registered a perfect 4.0 this past semester. 

Jana Ciric was the other Setters swimmer recognized with this honor for her academic and athletic success. Ciric, originally from Serbia, is carrying a 3.96 GPA while majoring in computer science at Pace. She took home four medals at this winter's NE10's and was a part of a school-record effort in the 800-freestyle relay. Ciric was another student-athlete to earn a 4.0 grade point average this semester. 

AIC's Kemani Hume was selected as the Sport Excellence Award winner in the sport of men's indoor track and field.  Hume, a former national champion, has a 3.81 GPA majoring in psychology for the Yellow Jackets. He's been named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll while at AIC, and was a part of the champion distance medley relay team at the NE10 Championships.

Riley Knebes of the New Haven women's track and field team was recognized as the winner in her sport this winter. A 3.87 student-athlete majoring in both english and communication, Knebes was the only NE10 student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships this season. Her time of 55.61 earned her All Region and she was also the NE10 Champion in the event. The senior has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in seven semesters and has posted two perfect 4.0 GPA semesters, including one this past fall
