South Easton, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference announced that Assumption College senior women's lacrosse player Jenny Mongeau and Franklin Pierce College senior baseball player Bryan Duplissie have been named the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year as selected by the Northeast-10 Faculty Athletic Representatives. The announcement was made by Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner David R. Brunk.

Mongeau and Duplissie will now be under consideration for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association National Scholar-Athlete of the Year award by sponsored by Disney Sports Attractions.

"I applaud Jenny Mongeau and Bryan Duplissie on their academic and athletic achievements," Brunk said. "As the Northeast-10 continues to be the leading conference in academics it is individuals such as these two special people who truly represent and distinguish the student-athlete."

Mongeau, a triple major (biology, chemistry and mathematics), was a Northeast-10 All-Academic First Team member. In addition to playing lacrosse, Mongeau was involved with many community projects, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Habitat for Humanity and the creation of a tutoring program called SLAM, which is now being used to train all tutors at Assumption.

The Greyhound midfielder was also recently named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America second-team. In 2005, Mongeau was named to the ESPN/CoSida First Team All Academic All-Region and Third Team All-America. She also received accolades such as the 2005 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was named to the All-Academic Team.

For her efforts on the field, she was selected to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team four times, including three times to the NE-10 First Team. The Westboro, Massachusetts native was also recently named to the all-America team as selected by laxpower.com for the second straight year.

On the playing field, Mongeau was a prolific goal scorer and a versatile player for the Greyhounds as she took on different roles during her senior year. The captain and only senior in 2006, Mongeau emerged as an on-field teacher. She finished her career with 188 goals and 33 assists for 221 points, joining just 33 other student-athletes in NCAA Division II history with as many as 200 points.

Her 188 goals is the 20th-best career total in Division II history. She is the only Greyhound with two 50-goal seasons, three 40-goal seasons and is ranked fourth in Northeast-10 Conference history in goals and fifth in points. She scored 36 goals with three assists for 39 points this past season.

Duplissie, a business management and economics major at Franklin Pierce, capped his collegiate career with the school's first-ever Northeast-10 regular season title and a trip to the NCAA Division II Championship Series in Montgomery, Alabama. The East Swanzey, N.H. native transferred to Franklin Pierce after playing for Wheaton College (Norton, MA) for two years.

For his work in the classroom, Duplissie was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-America First Team. Duplissie's academic honors include the Northeast-10 Baseball All-Academic First Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll Silver Scholar awards. A member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Scholar-Athlete Honor Society, and Sigma Beta Delta, the Business National Honor Society, Duplissie established himself among the career leaders in many categories on the Franklin Pierce baseball team.

"Bryan is one of the most unselfish players that I have ever coached," said Franklin Pierce baseball head coach Jayson King. "He is also very humble even though he has done nothing but great things on the diamond, in the classroom and in the community while at Franklin Pierce."

The two-year starting first baseman and pitcher helped his team earn back-to-back NCAA tournament berths and this year, the Ravens advanced all the way to the semifinal round of the Division II World Series. The 2005 Northeast-10 Player of the Year was also a two-time NE-10 First Team selection, as well as the 2005 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Northeast Region Player of the Year and First Team honoree.

In 2006, Duplissie was named an American Baseball Coaches Association Third Team All-American, as well as ABCA All-Northeast Region First Team for the second straight year. He also garnered first team on the NCBWA All-Northeast Region honors this year and was a back-to-back New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) College Division All-Star in 2005 and 2006.

In the NCAA Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce, Duplissie earned the Most Outstanding Player award in the NCAA DII Northeast Regional.

Duplissie is the first Franklin Pierce student-athlete to receive the Northeast-10 Scholar Athlete of the Year award, while Mongeau is the fifth Greyhound in the last six years to win this coveted award.

Duplissie was presented his award on Thursday, June 29 before he made his first professional start on the mound for the Nashua Pride of the Can-Am league.
