Five Northeast-10 Baseball Student-Athletes Garner Capital One Academic All-District Recognition

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Five Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes have collected 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The All-District teams are released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The University of New Haven had two honored in senior Brendon Buckley and sophomore TJ Ricco, as did Southern New Hampshire University in seniors Al Stanton and Derrick Sylvester. Stonehill College junior Christian Baglini also earned a spot on the All-District Team.

Buckley carries a 3.58 GPA as a Finance major at New Haven. The Monroe, Conn. native is currently fifth among conference leaders in hitting (.364) and has four home runs, 21 RBI, 36 runs and 14 stolen bases in 34 games entering Northeast-10 Championship Weekend.

Riccio, a catcher from Port Jeff Station, N.Y., has a 3.50 GPA as a Management of Sports Industries major. On the diamond, he has hit .296 in 30 games for the Chargers wit 25 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Stanton, an outfielder from Sandwich, Mass., is an Accounting/Finance major with a 3.65 GPA. He has appeared in all 48 games for the Penmen this spring, hitting .280 with a .370 OBP, three homers, 33 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Sylvester (pictured), a right-handed starting pitcher, is tied for the Northeast-10 lead in wins (8), leads the league in innings pitched (86.0) and is second in strikeouts (91). The Franklin, N.H. native owns a 2.62 ERA and has an impressive 3.90 GPA as a Psychology major at So. New Hampshire.

Baglini, a Milford, Conn. native, is a Neuroscience major carrying a 3.60 GPA at Stonehill. On the field, the infielder is hitting .294 with a .387 OBP in 44 games for the Skyhawks, and also has 25 RBI and 19 runs.

All five will advance ahead to the national ballot.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
