Reliever Criscuolo receives pair of First Team honors

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The 2014 Daktronics and NCBWA Baseball All-America Teams were both released this week, with numerous Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes garnering national recognition.

Southern New Hampshire University freshman reliever Benjamin Criscuolo (pictured) was a First Team selection by both organizations, as the Northeast-10 Co-Rookie of the Year racked up a 6-0 record and recorded a single-season program record 14 saves.  He posted a 0.90 ERA and struck out 46 while walking just eight in 40 innings.  Nine of his 14 saves were longer than an inning, and he had five saves that were at least two innings in length. 

Criscuolo is also a semifinalist for the inaugural Brett Tomko Award, presented to the top pitcher in Division II.

Merrimack College sophomore Frank Crinella, the 2014 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, received NCBWA Second Team All-America honors and Daktronics Third Team recognition. The third baseman led all Northeast-10 leaders with a .401 batting average and tied for the league lead with 40 RBI, and finished with six home runs – three shy of the league leader. Crinella also ranked fourth in the conference with 28 stolen bases. The East Longmeadow, Mass., native led the Warriors with 53 runs scored, 69 total hits, six triples and a .651 slugging percentage and .493 on-base percentage.

Adelphi University senior third baseman Richard Mejia was a Daktronics Second Team choice and an NCBWA Honorable Mention selection after hitting .395/.444/.525 with 14 doubles, 40 RBI and 23 runs scored for the Panthers, who advanced to the Northeast-10 Championship.

University of New Haven senior Brendon Buckley received was an Honorable Mention pick by the NCBWA. He hit .364/.478/.550 with nine doubles, five home runs, 22 RBI, 37 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.
