Le Moyne's Pat Wiese Tabbed for National Leadership Award

Le Moyne's Pat Wiese Tabbed for National Leadership Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - Le Moyne College's Pat Wiese has been named the recipient of the 2014 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby Fan's Choice Award.

In its third year, this annual award recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. The 16 finalists up for consideration in 2014 demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom.

The award winner, which is selected by the fans vote, will be honored at the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb. on July 3, airing live on ESPN.

Wiese was selected as one of two recipients for the Northeast-10 Conference's prestigious Man of the Year awards following the 2013-14 school year for his charitable efforts, as well as his dedication and perseverence. The video piece that the NE-10 put together to honor Pat is below:

Wiese had his playing career cut short following his diagnosis of cancer in his knee following his junior season. A three-year starter for the Dolphins, Wiese was named to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team and the ABCA & NCBWA DII All Region team during his junior year. He led the team in batting average at .333, on-base percentage with .415, hits (59), runs (39) and stolen bases (27).

While he was unable to play on the field in his last season, that didn't stop Wiese from impacting the team, the College and the community. While tackling his own fight with cancer, Pat, with the help of his family and classmates, formed the Pat Wiese Foundation. The goal of the organization is to help support research of Osteosarcoma as well as cancer patients and their families.

Through a number of fundraising activities, which included an inaugural 5K Fun Run and the sale of a limited edition t-shirt, the Foundation has raised over $30,000 in just the first six months.

For his tireless service, all while receiving his treatments, Pat was named the 2014 Le Moyne College Athletics J.J. O'Brien Male Senior Athlete of the Year, the most prestigious honor given to a Le Moyne student-athlete. Wiese, an NE-10 All-Academic Team honoree, earned his degree in Communications cum laude with a 3.52 G.P.A.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes.

Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sports sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 Conference is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
