SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Reigning NCAA Division II Baseball East Region champion Franklin Pierce University (pictured) has been ranked ninth in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national preseason poll, while Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire University came in at No. 27.

The preseason ledger was announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Franklin Pierce (37-19) won its sixth NCAA regional title in 11 years this past spring to advance to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. The Ravens then saw four drafted in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft in June.

So. New Hampshire (35-19), which has become a regional mainstay in recent years, has hosted the NCAA East Regional each of the last two seasons. Three Penmen were among the 11 Northeast-10 student-athletes selected in the MLB Draft last summer.

Also receiving votes in the poll was Le Moyne College (25-24), Merrimack College (30-19), the University of New Haven (34-16), Pace University (33-17), Southern Connecticut State University (20-21-1) and Stonehill College (23-22).

New Haven won the 2013 Northeast-10 Championship over Merrimack to advance to the East Regional, while Pace also earned an at-large berth to last year's regional tournament.

While there are a number of Division II baseball polls, the NCAA recognizes the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's rankings as its official weekly poll.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
