ALBANY, N.Y. - Wayne Jones has been named the interim head baseball coach at Saint Rose. He has spent the past two years as a Golden Knights assistant coach where his primary responsibilities were focused on the pitching staff. He takes over a program that advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Finals a year ago. 

“Wayne Jones was an integral part of the Saint Rose coaching staff with specific responsibilities to the pitchers during the program’s successful 2016 season. His extensive background and long-standing involvement with this area’s baseball community should be strong assets as he takes the helm for the 2017 season,” said Cathy Haker, Director of Athletics and Recreation.

Jones brings a wealth of experience to the table. He previously served as the pitching coach at nearby Shenendehowa and Shaker High Schools from 2000-14. He furthermore served in the same capacity for the South Troy Dodgers Elite Team throughout the past 12 years. Jones was also the head coach of the Clifton Park Reds of the Mountain Collegiate League from 1998-04. 

At Shaker, he helped guide the Bison to the finals of the 2011 New York State Championship Tournament and helped developed two major league pitchers, Jeff Hoffman of the Colorado Rockies and Tommy Kahnle of the Chicago White Sox.

Jones furthermore helped lead South Troy to six Connie Mack World Series appearances and directed Clifton Park to the 1999 Continental Amateur Baseball Association Collegiate Division National Championship.

Jones is a native of Ballston Lake, N.Y and currently resides in Halfmoon, N.Y.
