NE10 Player of the Week
Cody Smith, Assumption
Junior | Outfielder | Holden, Mass.
Smith batted .462 with six hits, six runs, a home run, and three RBI in four games down in North Carolina. The lefty leadoff hitter had at least one hit and one walk in each game. Smith had multiple hits in two of the four games, two extra base hits, and a stolen base.
NE10 Pitcher of the Week
Mike Szturma, Southern Conn. St.
Sophomore | Pitcher | Beacon Falls, Conn.
Szturma was dazzling in his first start of the 2024 season against Saint Anselm in a 4-1 win. Despite taking the no-decision after leaving in a tied game after six innings, Szturma dominated the Hawks lineup. The second-year starter racked up 12 strikeouts against just three walks over six IP while scattering two hits and allowing one unearned run.
NE10 Rookie of the Week
Jamison Howland, Assumption
Freshman | Catcher/Infield | New Braintree, Mass.
Howland had a solid first week of his collegiate career. He batted .462 in four games, which included three extra-base hits and four RBIs. He went 2-for-3 in Assumption's 5-4 win against Felician, as he drove in the game-tying run early in the contest with a sac fly to center. He capped off the weekend with a 2-for-3 performance against Molloy, with two runs and a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
NE10 Weekly Honor Roll
Jackson Haker, American Int'l (Jr., 3B - Uxbridge, Mass.)
Haker had a strong start to the 2024 season, leading the Yellow Jackets with a .400 average and .471 on base percentage in four games at USC Aiken. He also went nine for nine on defensive chances at the hot corner with two putouts and seven assists.
Justin Ray, Assumption (Gr, RHP - Portland, Maine)
Ray picked up his first win of the year, as he tossed 5.2 innings of one run baseball. He struck out three batters in Assumption's 4-1 win over Felician. Ray supported a 1.59 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
Aidan Dow, Saint Anselm (Sr, OF - Lynn, Mass.)
Dow batted .500 over the weekend series against Southern Connecticut State. During game two on Saturday, he went 2-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. The senior recorded the first home run, RBI, and multi-hit game of his career to help the Hawks defeat the Owls 10-0.
Nathan Toms, Saint Rose (Sr., IF - Albany, N.Y)
Toms helped the Golden Knights go 2-2 in their opening weekend in North Carolina with a .385 average, two home runs, four RBI, and six runs. In addition to driving in runs in three of the four contests for Saint Rose, Toms also drew four walks to tally a .529 on-base percentage.
Harry Vargas Segura, Southern N.H. (Jr., OF - Bronx, N.Y.)
Vargas Segura went 5-for-11 (.455) with four RBI and three runs scored. He doubled twice and drew a pair of walks, as he slashed .538/.636/1.174 in SNHU's 0-3 opening weekend Feb. 2-4 at the Houston Winter Invitational.
Jake Chacho, Southern Conn. St. (Fr, OF - Seymour, Conn.)
Owls newcomer Jake Chacho slashed .385/.438/.615 in a four-game series against Saint Anselm, hitting safely in all four games. Chacho was 5-for-13 with four runs scored, a home run and stolen base as the Owls went 3-1 against the Hawks.
