SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Two Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes received Preseason All-America honors from D2Football.com, the website announced Tuesday morning.

University of New Haven senior Mike DeCaro (left) was a Second Team selection in the All-Purpose category, while Assumption College senior tight end Scott Simonson (right) was also a Second Team choice.

New Haven also came in at No. 19 in the organization's preseason poll.

DeCaro was a First Team All-Northeast-10 performer as both a running back and return specialist in 2012. He accounted for a team-high 616 rushing yards with seven touchdowns on the ground in addition to catching 22 passes for 224 yards and three scores. He also averaged 27.3 yards per kick return last fall, punctuated by a program-record 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Northeast-10 Championship game against American International College.

Also a Second Team All-Super Region One honoree from Don Hansen Football Gazette in 2012, DeCaro was previously recognized by D2Football.com during the 2013 preseason as the 52nd-ranked player in Division II this fall.

Don Hansen's Football Gazette Second Team All-American and Daktronics First Team All-Region selection in 2012, Simonson is coming off a 36-reception, 558-yard season that included a team-high six receiving touchdowns. He was also a 2012 Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference honoree.

Simonson was previously named as a Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Third Team Preseason All-American, a College Football America Division II Preseason All-American, a USA College Football First Team Preseason All-American, a Football Gameplan Second Team Preseason All-American and is rated as the No. 53 ranked player in NCAA Division II by D2Football.com.

He has also drawn the attention of National Football League (NFL) scouts as the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins have both conducted on-campus workouts with the 6-6, 255-pound senior.

New Haven opens its season this Saturday, September 7 at West Chester, while Assumption also opens on Saturday at Bryant.
