Merrimack’s Tripicchio, New Haven’s Fallico receive academic honors
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The 2013-14 Capital
One Academic All-District ® Football Teams, selected by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), were
released late last week to recognize the nation’s top
student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and
in the classroom.
Two Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes were recognized among
the 24 honored, as Merrimack College senior Matt
Tripicchio (pictured) and University of New Haven
senior Matthew Fallico were both
selected.
Tripicchio, a Lake Zurich, Illinois native, is a two-year captain and is second in the Northeast-10 with 14.5 tackles-for-loss. He also leads the Warriors in forced fumbles (4), is tied for the team lead in sacks (3.5) and is second with 58 total tackles. He was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team last fall and has a 3.40 GPA as a Business major.
Fallico, a Criminal Justice major with a 3.75 GPA, is a member
of the Dean's List at New Haven and a member of the Northeast-10
Commissioner's Honor Roll. On the field this year, he has started
all 10 games for the Chargers, totaling 65 tackles (27 solo). The
Syracuse, N.Y. native also has 4.0 tackles-for-loss this
season.
To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30
cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore
in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor
athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are
voted on by sports information directors in the district and
nation, respectively.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
