FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Harris Makes Saints' Roster; Triner Makes Cut for Bucs.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Over the weekend, NFL teams made roster cuts for the start of the season and a pair of former Northeast-10 Conference football players made a big enough impact to be included on the final 53-man roster for their respective teams.
Deonte Harris and Zach Triner – a pair of Assumption's former star players – made final cuts for the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively. Both will compete against each other twice this season, as members of the NFC South.
Harris made the roster for the New Orleans Saints after an explosive showing in preseason games – including a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown against the New York Jets. In total, Harris recorded an average of 14.6 yards on 10 punt returns and 25.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
Triner is the long snapper for the Buccaneers, after playing his career as a defensive lineman at Assumption. He has been in the league since the Jets signed him to a futures contract in January of 2017, as he looks to get his first NFL action this weekend against San Francisco.
Additionally – the New York Giants placed tight end Scott Simonson, former Assumption player, on injured reserve after he suffered an ankle injury in the final preseason game against the New England Patriots. He will have to sit out eight weeks before he is eligible to return..
Jake Carlock, an LIU Post product and the reigning NE10 Defensive Player of the Year, will begin the season on the practice squad for the Giants.
Nobody knew who Deonte Harris was at the beginning of the summer. But he's been proving the odds wrong all his life: https://t.co/4KO1YFqmFB
