BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Second-seeded Stonehill College defeated top-seeded LIU Post, 1-0, to claim the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championship title.
In a rematch of last year's title game, this year it was the Skyhawks coming out on top.
The first half saw no scoring plays, as LIU Post ripped five shots and the Skyhawks took seven. Both goalkeepers were solid during the game's first 35 minutes to keep the contest in a 0-0 stalemate at the break.
Early in the second period, at 45:29, Stonehill's Emily Sideris found the back of the cage off of a Sarah Morse penalty corner to give the Skyhawks the only score they would need to claim the 2014 NE-10 title.
The Pioneers battled back, amassing 10 shots through the second half, including one that was saved by Stonehill seniorEmily Coholan.
Stonehill's Elizabeth Genovese, the 2014 NE-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player, made seven saves in the cage for Stonehill in the shutout win, while LIU Post's Ericka Parks made six saves in defeat.
Stonehill and LIU Post now await their seeding for the 2014 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament in the selection show set to air on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
