Embrace the Championship: Three Field Hockey Programs Selected to NCAA Championship Field

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 had three field hockey programs selected to the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon, with two of the teams taking part in first round games on Saturday, Nov. 23. 

NE10 Champion Saint Anselm earned the No. 2 seed in the six-team field courtesy of its 19-2 record, culminating in a 2-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire in the NE10 Championship on Sunday. The Hawks earned a bye into the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 22. They will take on the winner of the Assumption and East Stroudsburg contest. 

The Greyhounds secured their first-ever NCAA bid and square off against an East Stroudsburg team on the road, Saturday, Nov. 16. East Stroudsburg just won the PSAC Championship over the weekend and has accumulated an 18-2 record this season. The Warriors were the 2018 NCAA Runner-Up, falling to Millersville in the NCAA Title Game.

Southern New Hampshire was the final NE10 program to advance to the NCAA Championship, after falling in the NE10 Championship Game. The Penmen will host Kutztown on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Manchester. They have a 17-4 record this season and square off a Golden Bears team which is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 and is 14-6 overall after reaching the PSAC Championship Game over the weekend. 

West Chester earned the top overall seed with its 18-1 record and will play the winner of SNHU & Kutztown on Nov. 22 at Biemesderfer Stadium on the campus of Millersville.

Shippensburg has won the past three NCAA Championships and the PSAC has won it each of the last eight years. UMass-Lowell was the most recent NE10 program to win the NCAA Title, though an NE10 program has been the runner-up seven of the last eight years.
