Penmen Lead NE-10 Men’s Golf Championship After Opening Round

Chatfield, Clare Tied for First Among Individuals

ENDICOTT, N.Y. – Southern New Hampshire leads defending champion Bentley by one stroke for the top team spot after the opening round of the 2015 Northeast-10 Men's Golf Championship at En-Joie Golf Club, hosted by Le Moyne. Bentley's Brett Chatfield and Le Moyne's John Clare are tied for the individual lead after the first round.

The Penmen posted a team score of 290 (+2) to hold the top position, just ahead of the Falcons' 291 (+3) overall score. Leading Southern New Hampshire on the par 72 course were reigning NE-10 medalist Jake Nutter (pictured) and John Clancy, posting top-5 scores of 71 and 72, respectively.

Chatfield and Clare both shot a two-under par 70 to lead a field of 50 golfers from 10 different NE-10 teams. Rounding out the rest of the top-5 were Saint Rose's Michael Pilkington and Bentley's Malcolm Oliver.

Following the Penmen and Falcons in the team leaderboard, Saint Rose and Le Moyne came in tied at No. 3 with a total score of 297. Assumption was fifth with a 313 team score, followed closely by Franklin Pierce in sixth with a 314. Saint Anselm, American International, Adelphi and Saint Michael's rounded out the remaining field.

The final round of championship play will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
