Four Ravens Finish In Top Six to Win First-Ever NE10 Crown

HAVERHILL, Mass. - With four of the top six finishers, Franklin Pierce held off Merrimack during Day Two of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Golf Championship to claim their first-ever title in the sport. Merrimack had won all three championships since the league began sponsoring the sport in 2014.

The Ravens defeated the Warriors by two strokes over the two-day tournament, with Le Moyne finishing third. For the complete list of results by team, please see the image below:

Camden Morrison's 143 (-1) led the way as Franklin Pierce would defeat the three-time defending champions by two strokes to win the championship Monday afternoon at Haverhill Country Club in Haverhill, Mass. Morrison, who finished one shot behind this year's medalist, was followed by Sarah Daley who finished in fifth-place overall with a 158. Taylor Hartley and Taylor Schmidt both carded 159's over the two day event to tie for sixth.

Merrimack's Krytal Knight earned Medalist honors as her two-day 142 (-2) led all student-athletes. Knight was three shots behind Morrison following day one of action, but recorded an even par 72 during Monday's play to claim the individual title.

With the win, Franklin Pierce earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II East Super Regional field. The Ravens will be taking part in the three round Regionals at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. from Monday, May 7th to Wednesday, May 9th.

Ravens head coach Tyler Bishop, who coached Morrison at last year's NCAA Championship gets to bring his entire team to the NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history.

"This was an amazing championship run by the NE10 Conference, Haverhill Country Club and host Merrimack College" said Bishop. "I want to thank them for all their hard work in making this a first class tournament. I am so proud of our team and what they accomplished over the last two days. Merrimack played great golf and we really had to earn this victory. Our seniors Taylor Schmidt and Camden Morrison, who started this program four years ago came up huge for us. Taylor played one of her best collegiate rounds today (Monday) shooting a 76 (+4) and Camden shot a 67 (-5) yesterday. After a tough first nine today, we played even on the back to secure our first ever conference championship. I am so proud of our program and how far we have come in just four years."

"It is amazing to see how far we have come as a team and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of this team" said Morrison. "We wanted this one because it's our last year to qualify for Regionals and we got it, so I couldn't be more proud."
