WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption Director of Athletics Nick Smith is pleased to announce the hiring of Jon Ladino as the head coach of the Assumption College softball program.
"We are excited to welcome Jon to Assumption College, said Smith. "He brings a wealth of coaching experience as an assistant and we're confident he will be an asset to the program. Jon is dedicated to the development of the whole student-athlete, encompassing excellence in athletics, academics and the community."
Ladino spent this past year at Regis College working as an assistant coach with the softball program. The team went 16-13 overall record, including a program-record 13-5 in the NECC. Six of his players earned All-NECC honors while he also had the NECC Pitcher of the Year on his staff.
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Nick Smith, Associate Director of Athletics Christine Lowthert and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the Assumption College softball program, said Ladino. "Assumption is a very special place with tremendous people and I am honored to be able to learn from and contribute to the strong community here. I look forward to coaching our student athletes every day, supporting them in achieving excellence in both the classroom and on the softball field."
Prior to Regis, Ladino spent two years coaching at Becker College. As an assistant with the Hawks, he helped the team to a 47-27 overall record and a 30-6 NECC conference mark over two seasons. Becker won an NECC Championship Title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first in program history. He also coached the NECC Pitcher of the Year and NECC Rookie of the Year. Over two seasons, Ladino had seven players make the NECC All-Academic Team, and seven players make the NECC First-Team.
To accompany his many years of softball experience, Ladino has worked as a Title III Academic Coach at the Academic Center for Excellence and as a First Year Experience Instructor at Becker College.
Ladino graduated from Merrimack College in 2012 with a degree in Business Administration and earned master's degree in Higher Education Student Administration from Salem State University in 2014.
