Nick Goodreau Hired as Saint Michael's Softball Head Coach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's Director of Athletics Chris Kenny '86 announced the hire of Nick Goodreau as the new head coach of the softball program on Tuesday. Goodreau has worked with and developed some of the best talent in the state through his Vermont Storm Fastpitch Softball club program while seeing nearly a dozen players from this year's teams advance to the college level this coming school year.

"I am honored and excited for the opportunity to coach at Saint Michael's College and be a part of a very enthusiastic group of athletes," said Goodreau. "I bring a strong passion for the sport with a focus on hitting and offensive production, and look forward to the overall development of the program through the coming years."

Goodreau replaces Robyn Newton, who retired in May following 18 years at the helm of the program. He is the owner, president and 18U-23U head coach for the Vermont Storm, taking the program's reins in 2014 and growing it from one team to five age-group squads with a year-round training program for more than 60 prospective college players. As a head coach, Goodreau has a 83-27-1 mark over the past four summers, with his charges winning eight tournaments, including the last four Vermont Rockets Invitationals and the past two Lac St-Louis Lions Classics in Quebec. Goodreau joined the Vermont Storm as a hitting and bench coach in 2013.

Goodreau, who introduced indoor fall and winter development training and instruction for Vermont Storm players, has recruited and developed numerous players who went on to compete in college. Over the years, Goodreau has worked with local sponsors to subsidize player costs while meeting annual fundraising goals, hiring coaches and coordinating all aspects of the teams in the Vermont Storm program.

"We are excited to have Nick leading our softball program," said Kenny. "He has a passion for coaching and student-athlete development, and is a gifted teacher of the game. He brings a great combination of skills to this opportunity, and we look forward to working with him."

Beyond the softball field, Goodreau has worked at Husky Injection Molding Systems in Milton since 2009. After serving as an Information Technology program and project manager for eight years, he became a Global IT Operations Support Manager in 2016, overseeing a diverse team of professionals from around the globe. Additionally, Goodreau oversees budget management and strategic planning in his role at Husky.

Goodreau is a graduate of Champlain College, earning a bachelor's degree in business management. He also completed his associate's degree in applied sciences from Star Technical Institute in systems and network design.
