Owls Sweep NE10 Championships for 10th Time in Program History

WORCESTER, Mass. - For the first time since 2013, the Men's and Women's Team titles were hoisted by the same school as Southern Connecticut won both conference championships earlier tonight at the WPI Recreation Center. The Owls accomplished the sweep for the tenth time in the 15-year history of the event. The Southern Connecticut Men's team cruised to a relatively easy championship win, while the Women's Team had to hold off a late push from Assumption during Sunday's action.

The complete team scores from this year's championship can be found below.

For the Owls' Men's team, it was their NE10-best 13th title. They've taken home the trophy in all but two editions of the conference championships, since the first time NE10's were held during the 2003-04 academic year. Southern Connecticut posted 954 points to win this year's title, more than 200-points better than second-place Bentley. Le Moyne finished in third place with 565.0 points.

The Women's team was able to hold off Assumption during the final day of the four-day meet. Southern Connecticut would post 876 points compared to the 830.5 registered by the Hounds. It's the 12th title for the Owls' women's team overall and second straight as they narrowly defeated Assumption a year ago. Bentley finished in third place in this year's women's championship as the Falcons scored 647.5 over the four days of competition.

Southern Connecticut's Katie Crochet was recognized as the Women's Swimmer of the Meet as she swept the sprint freestyle races throughout the weekend. The senior took home the title in the 50 free, 100 free, and the 200 freestyle races.

Crochet's teammate at Southern Connecticut, Tyler Prescott, earned Men's Swimmer of the Meet. The junior posted three wins over the weekend, taking home the gold medal in the 200 individual medley, the 400 IM, and the 200 backstroke. His time of 1:47.36 in the backstroke set a new conference record in the event.

Pace's Sophia Howard earned Women's Diver of the Meet as she won the one-meter event and finished second in the three-meter event. Saint Rose freshman Grant Tinsley Little earned honors on the Men's side as he swept both the one and three-meter events during the weekend.

Owls' swimmers also set new conference records as Leonardo LaPorte set a new mark in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.95) and the Women's 400-yard freestyle relay team posted a new top time of 3:30.40.
