WORCESTER, Mass. — With 30 years of competitive swim coaching experience that includes 16 years as an assistant or head coach at the Division I level, Assumption's Interim Director of Athletics Christine Lowthert has announced the hiring of Richard "Doc" Ludemann as the head coach of the Assumption Women's Swimming and Diving team.

"Assumption College is pleased to announce the appointment of a highly-regarded swimming and diving professional who will build upon a foundation of excellence for our Women's Swimming and Diving team, as he develops an enhanced club program for men," said Lowthert. "Richard's extensive experience and success at the collegiate level will infuse the program with expert-level coaching that will provide our student-athletes with the necessary training to continue to compete at the highest levels of the Northeast-10 Conference. Most importantly, he has expressed a commitment to the student-athletes' success in the classroom while emphasizing character-building endeavors through community service opportunities. We look forward to welcoming Richard to the Greyhound family and supporting his efforts to continue the enhancement of the program's tradition of excellence."

As the head coach of the Women's Swimming and Diving team, Ludemann will be responsible for all aspects of coaching instruction along with the development and leadership of a comprehensive NCAA Division II Women's Swimming and Diving program while developing and implementing a recruitment strategy.  Ludemann will also serve as head coach of the Blue & White Men's Swimming program, one of the College's three new, enhanced club programs, which also includes Women's Ice Hockey and Esports.

"I am excited to be a part of the outstanding Greyhound tradition," said Ludemann. "I believe Assumption has a history of academics and athletics working hand-in-hand to promote both equally. I look forward to helping the program grow and have our student-athletes flourish on many planes. One of the reasons I got into coaching was to pay it forward for all the support I've received both as an athlete and a coach."

In the sport of Women's Swimming and Diving, Ludemann has served a distance coach and head coach at the University of Bridgeport; head coach of the women's varsity and men's club team at Sacred Heart University; assistant coach for the women's and men's teams at Yale University; and assistant coach at UCLA. He also served as conditioning consultant for the USA and Canada National Water Polo teams; and as a consultant, reorganized and developed SwimKauai, a youth swimming program in Kauai, Hawaii.

As head coach at the University of Bridgeport, Ludemann trained five student-athletes to represent their national team at the World Championships. During his leadership at Sacred Heart, the team developed Senior and Junior National qualifiers, had more than 20 ECAS qualifiers and scorers, and saw 92 percent of its student-athletes earn personal bests each year.

In addition to his vast collegiate coaching experience, Ludemann also served as head director of competitive aquatics and head coach at the New Canaan (CT) Y Aquatic Club; associate coach at the Westport (CT) YMCA; head coach of the Country Club of New Canaan; and head coach of the Stamford High School (CT) Girls Varsity swim team.

Ludemann received an Associate in Applied Science in education at Southern Connecticut State University and majored in physical education and education at Fulton Montgomery College.
