South Easton, Mass. – A total of 16 student-athletes, ten
men and six women, from the Northeast-10 have qualified for the
NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field championships. The
championships will be held May 21-23, at the Legrand Sports Complex
on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
Angelo State University will serve as host.
Among the qualifiers on the men’s side include, the
University of New Haven’s Kevin Downing, who will participate
in both the 100 and the 200 meters, and Southern Connecticut State
University’s Sutton Underwood who will compete in the Pole
Vault. Also, the UMass Lowell Men’s 4x400 medley team which
consists of Doug Caves, NE-10 Athlete of the Year, Jeff Wundt,
Robert Liekweg, Andrew Grange, and Donte Brown will compete as
well.
On the women’s side, standouts include Shannon Gagne from New
Haven who will be participating in both the 100 and the 200 meters
along with the long jump event. Stonehill’s Jen Gardynski
will be racing in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase, while Southern
Connecticut’s Yvonne Perkins will compete in the shot put
event.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
