Owls Win 15th NE10 Title in Program History, while Skyhawks Win 3rd Straight Crown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut Men's team and the Stonehill Women's team each defended their title at the 2018 NE10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the two-day evey came to a close earlier this afternoon at Jess Dow Field on the campus of Southern Connecticut. It's the 15th outdoor track and field title for the Owls' men's squad and second in as many years. It's the fourth overall, and third in as many years for the Skyhawks' women's team.
Men's Recap:
The Owls broke four conference records in the process of claiming this year's championship by a comfortable margin as the Owls scored 240.0 points at this year's event. American International finished second with 138.5 points, while Stonehill finished third scoring 102.5 points.
SCSU's Oghenefejiro Onakpoma claimed gold in the triple jump after leaping 15.44 meters, a Division II provisional marker and breaks the NE10 record set last year (15.28m). Yakabu Ibrahim was victorious in the 110 meter hurdles covering it in 14.09 seconds, a Division II provisional marker and also breaking the NE10 record previously set in 2014 (14.26). Ibrahim's teammate, Ruvens Exantus, took second with a time of 14.40, which is also a provisional marker.
The Owls' Turner Kelly claimed the throne in the shot put after he tossed the shot 15.44 meters to seal his victory as the NE10 Champion. He would also finish fourth in the discus with his throw of 42.81 meters. Kelly would be named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet for his efforts. SCSU's 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Luke Velez, Nigel Green, Orrin Parke and Aaron Rattley took home the NE10 title after running a 40.95 second race, which is also an NCAA provisional marker and ties the NE10 record previously set by SCSU in 2017.

Women's Recap:
Stonehill won their third straight NE10 title this weekend, as the Skyhawks completed the two-day championships with a team score of 248.0. Southern Connecticut finished second with 148.50, while Assumption finished third with 139.5 points.
Stonehill saw 15 All-Conference honors on day two, totaling 24 over the two-day meet, including all three relays. The Skyhawks also had four school records broken on day two, totaling six broken records. On the final day of competition, Stonehill saw three first-place marks, combining for five total individual winners. The Skyhawks have now won nine-straight NE10 titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field, and 14 of the last 15 titles since 2013.
The quartet of Sinead O'Brien, Emily Polvere, Alison Tobin and Olivia Dexter kicked off the day two track events with a school record time of 47.20-seconds in the 4x100-meter relay, marking the first time that Stonehill won the 4x100-meter. Dexter earned her second All-Conference honor of the day in the 100-meter dash finals earning first place, for her first top mark at a NE10 Championships, clocking in a time of 11.95, a new school record.
In her third event of the day, Dexter placed third in the 200-meter dash for her third All-Conference honor, clocking in a time of 24.95.
