Chargers and Falcons Selected To Succeed During Upcoming Women’s Basketball Campaign

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Bentley University and the University of New Haven topped their respective divisions in the 2014-15 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced this morning.

Bentley is coming off a perfect 35-0 season, and the first-ever national title in the sport, while the Chargers were selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, and return a number of key pieces from last year'

Bentley received 13 of a possible 14 first place votes, and 103 points overall, to earn the top slot in the Northeast Division preseason rankings. Barbara Stevens' (pictured), team lost a number of contributors from last year's team that defeated West Texas A&M, 73-65, in the National Championship game, but the coaches' feel as though Bentley will once again win the NE-10.

Bentley defeated Adelphi University in last year's Northeast-10 Championship game on their way to a perfect season.

New Haven, meanwhile, will be looking to build upon the momentum of the 2013-14 campaign, which saw them post an 18-10 record, including 13-7 in NE-10 play. Ty Grace's veteran squad, which features five seniors and two juniors, received 84 points and 10 first place votes, to narrowly edge out Adelphi, which received 81 votes, including 5 first-place selections.

Following New Haven and Adelphi in the Southwest Division is Le Moyne College (58 votes), American International College (56), The College of Saint Rose (46), Pace University (27) and Southern Connecticut State University (19).

In the Northeast Division, Stonehill College was the choice behind Bentley, as the Skyhawks received 92 votes, including two first place selections. Assumption College (74) was selected third, followed by: Franklin Pierce University (69), Merrimack College (48), Southern New Hampshire University (41), Saint Anselm College (29), and Saint Michael's College (20).

The women's basketball season will officially get underway on Friday, November 15 and the Northeast-10 Conference will crown a champion on Sunday, March 8.
