Adelphi, Bentley Earn Top Seeds for Upcoming Women's Basketball Championship

NE10 Championship Play Begins Friday

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Adelphi Panthers and Bentley Falcons have earned the top seeds in the 2017 Northeast-10 Women's Basketball Championship, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday night.

Adelphi claimed the Southwest Division crown after posting a 23-4 overall record and 18-2 mark in conference play this season. The Panthers earn a bye into the quarterfinals and will host the winner of a first-round matchup between No. 4 NE Stonehill and No. 5 SW Southern Connecticut.

Bentley won the Northeast Division title after going 24-4 overall and 20-1 in NE10 play this season. The Falcons earn a first-round bye and will host the winner of Friday night's opening-round contest between No. 4 SW Pace and No. 5 NE Merrimack.

The semifinal round will take place on Thursday, March 2, with higher seeds hosting. The 2017 NE10 Championship Game will be played on Sunday, March 5, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. 

The conference office will also release its major award winners and All-Conference selections on Friday, February 24. 

Northeast Division
1. Bentley (20-1)
2. Assumption (14-7)
3. Saint Anselm (13-8)
4. Stonehill (11-10)
5. Merrimack (10-11)*

 * Merrimack finished in a tie with Saint Michael’s and earned the fifth seed based on a 2-0 regular season record vs. Saint Michael’s.

Southwest Division
1. Adelphi (18-2)
2. American International (14-6)
3. Le Moyne (10-10)
4. Pace (8-12)
5. Southern Connecticut (7-13)* 

* Southern Connecticut finished in a tie for the fifth seed with Saint Rose.   They split their season series; the tie was broken by comparing their results against teams within the division.  Each lost twice to Adelphi and AIC.  Southern Connecticut earned the fifth seed based on a 2-0 record vs. Le Moyne – Saint Rose was 0-2 vs. Le Moyne.

Game 1:  Southern Connecticut (No. 5 seed SW) at Stonehill (No. 4 seed NE) – 7:00 PM
Game 2:  Merrimack (No. 5 seed NE) at Pace (No. 4 seed SW) – 7:00 PM 

Quarterfinals - ­Sunday, February 26th

Game 3:  Game 1 winner at Adelphi (No. 1 seed SW) – 3:00 PM
Game 4:  Game 2 winner at Bentley (No. 1 seed NE) – 3:00 PM
Game 5:  Saint Anselm (No. 3 seed NE) at American International (No. 2 seed SW) – 3:00 PM
Game 6:  Le Moyne (No. 3 seed SW) at Assumption (No. 2 seed NE) – 3:00 PM
