Two 1's, Two 2's Remain in NE10 Women's Basketball Action
The top seeds in both the Northeast and Southwest Divisions of the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball standings are still standing following today's Quarterfinal Round action of the 2018 NE10 Championship. Here's how the action played out Sunday afternoon -
#1 NE Stonehill 90, #4 SW Adelphi 65 | BOXSCORE
EASTON, Mass. - Northeast Division top-seed and Northeast-10 Conference regular season champions Stonehill raced out to a 17-point lead after a quarter of play and didn't look back in rolling to a 90-65 triumph over Southwest Division No. 4 Adelphi in quarterfinal round action of the 2018 NE10 women's basketball tournament on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.
Stonehill (25-2, 20-1 NE10) advances to Thursday's NE10 semifinal round, where it will host Southwest No. 2 Le Moyne (17-10, 12-8 NE10) at 7 p.m. Adelphi, the defending NE10 Tournament champions, sees its season come to a close with a 14-16 record overall, including 9-11 in the NE10.
Senior forward Samantha Hyslip led four Stonehill players in double-figures with her ninth double-double of the season (16th career) with game-high totals of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while adding two assists and two blocked shots, shooting 7-for-9 from the field and converting 6-of-7 free-throws in 27 minutes. Senior Kelly Martin scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half, while adding eight rebounds and four assists, and sophomore Grace Carter matched her career-high with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point distance and four assists.
Freshman Emily Miccile led a pair of Adelphi players in double-figures with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
#1 SW Southern Connecticut 75, #4 NE Southern New Hampshire 64 | BOXSCORE
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Abby Hurlbert, pictured, set a new career-high as Southern Connecticut ousted Southern New Hampshire in the NE10 Quarterfinals today, 75-64. Hurlbert had the second-highest single-game total in program history, trailing only Cathy Inglese (40 against UMass on 2/20/80).
Hurlbert's career-high was back on Jan. 23 against Assumption (30). She tallied 25 of her points in the first half of the game. The Owls tied a season-high in total points scored with 75. With the win, Souther Connecticut moves onto the NE10 Semifinals on Thursday night. Catherine Stinson had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Penmen.
#2 NE Bentley 70, #3 SW Pace 62 | BOXSCORE
WALTHAM, Mass. – Down five entering the final period, Bentley outscored Pace 22-9 in the fourth quarter to record a 70-62 win in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals and advance to the semifinals for the 34th time in 37 years. The Falcons, who reached the 25-win threshold for the 24th time in program history, will take a 25-3 record into Thursday's semifinal game at Southern Connecticut.
Bentley placed four in double figures with senior guard Lauren Green and junior center Victoria Lux topping the list with 15 points apiece. Graduate guard Becca Musgrove followed with 14 and junior forward Megan Lewis added a dozen. Alexandra Montelelone led Pace with 20 points and Lauren Schetter added 15, along with seven rebounds, off the bench.
#2 SW Le Moyne 77, #3 Saint Anselm 49 | BOXSCORE
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore guard McKayla Roberts tied a program record with seven three-pointers to lead Le Moyne to a 77-49 victory over Saint Anselm on Sunday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships quarterfinals at Ted Grant Court.
With the victory, the Dolphins advance to the NE10 semifinals for the second consecutive year and for the third time in the program's history. The Dolphins, the second seed from the Southwest Division, will visit Stonehill, the top seed from the Northeast Division, on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Roberts, who finished the contest with a season-best 27 points, tied the program's single-game record for three-pointers with her seven. Jennifer Dennett connected on seven trifectas on January 10, 1994. Roberts also dished out a game-high seven assists. Senior forward Joanna Dobrovosky finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while classmate Courtney Webster tallied 12 points and three rebounds. Junior guard Madison Purcell was the fourth Dolphin in double digits with 10 points, while dishing out four assists.
