Former Adelphi Standout Selected for Prestigious Victory Scholars Program
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. After her final season at Adelphi ended in her being leading the Panthers to the Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinal Round, former Panthers' standout Simone Hobdy's basketball career will continue overseas.
The Panther alum was one of nearly three dozen former NCAA athletes selected to the prestigious Victory Scholars program this summer, sponsored by the nonprofit organization Sport Changes Life. Hobdy will continue her playing career in Ireland, while she pursues a master's degree in management at Trinity College in the nation's capital.
Through a rigorous selection process, they progress to study in the program's partnering universities and higher education institutes for postgraduate master's degrees across Ireland while putting their extensive knowledge of sport, team-building, and mentorship into practice in communities across the island.
"I heard about the program from some of my former teammates and I thought it would be an incredible opportunity," Hobdy said. "It was definitely a process, as we went through a number of interviews with the representatives and the board, but it was all worth it. We have an amazing group here and I'm already having the time of my life."
Hobdy was assigned to the program alongside a familiar face in another Division II alumna from the east region, as she is joined by Dominican College's Rebecca Rabiero among other players who were already enrolled at Trinity.
In her two years at Adelphi after transferring from Division I Niagara, Hobdy amassed 682 points and 401 rebounds, averaging 11.0 points/game. She was named a Third Team All-Conference Selection following last season.

The Victory Scholars program consists of student-athletes who have excelled in academics and sport, primarily in basketball and in recent years golf, in American universities during their undergraduate studies. With offices in America and Belfast, Northern Ireland, Sport Changes Life is a registered UK charity and US nonprofit organization, which "provides an opportunity for raising the aspiration of young people on both sides of the Atlantic so that they can live out their dreams and guide them as sport changes their lives."
