RINDGE, N.H. – A 2010 alum of Franklin Pierce University and the women’s soccer program, Gabriela Demoner has moved on to showcase her skills on the international level since leaving Franklin Pierce. This month, Demoner is in Canada for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as a member of Brazil’s national team.

The Brazilians opened their World Cup run on Tuesday night at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, with a 2-0 win over South Korea, though Demoner did not see the field in the victory. The team will take the pitch again at Olympic Stadium at 4 p.m. Saturday against Spain, before closing out pool play against Costa Rica at 7 p.m. (EDT) on June 17 at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Demoner, now 30, has made 20 appearances with the Brazil national team and has scored a pair of goals along the way at the international level. Her international debut came against New Zealand on Sept. 22, 2013.

Demoner was a four-year standout on the field for Franklin Pierce, where she piled up 207 points on 82 goals and 43 assists. She ranks third all-time in program history in points and goals, as well as seventh in assists.

She was the NSCAA/Daktronics East Region Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2007 and again as a senior in 2009, and was the Northeast-10 Player of the Year and the Northeast-10 scoring champion both seasons as well. She was a four-time All-America selection, a four-time All-Region First Team selection and a four-time All-Northeast-10 First Team selection for the Ravens.

Brazil has qualified for all seven FIFA Women’s World Cups which have been contested, beginning with the inaugural event in China in 1991. Most recently, the team was a quarterfinalist in Germany in 2011, and its highest finish was as the runner-up to Germany in China in 2007. Brazil is the two-time defending Copa America champion and a two-time silver medalist at the Olympic Games.
