Assumption's Villemaire Tabbed NE10 Women's Soccer Player of the Year as League Hands Out Year-End Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southern New Hampshire Leads the Way with Eight All-Conference Honorees, Adelphi, Franklin Pierce Place Four on 1st Team

MANSFIELD, Mass. – High-scoring Assumption junior Kallie Villemaire has been named the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year, as the league office announced its women's soccer all-conference teams and major award winners today.

Villemaire is among the nation's leaders in goals scored and points, and leads the conference in both categories by a fairly large margin.

Southern New Hampshire led the way with eight student-athletes recoginzed overall, while Adelphi was second with seven.

For a complete list of the student-athletes that were named all-conference selections and the major award winners, please see below. All of the conference's awards are voted on by the league's 15 head coaches.

Villemaire currently has scored 20 goals this season, while adding a pair of assists for a total of 42 points overall. She's currently third in the nation in goals scored and tied for sixth nationally in points scored. She helped lead the sixth-seeded Hounds to the NE10 Semifinals, where they'll take on Southern New Hampshire later today. She was also named a First Team All-Conference selection.

So. New Hampshire senior Rianna Fasanello was tabbed the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. She led a defensive unit that has only allowed ten goals all season long, and has posted 11 clean sheets. The Penmen finished the regular season with a mark of 13-2-4, including 9-1-4 in conference play, good for the No. 2 seed in this year's championship. With their win in the Quarterfinals on Tuesday, they returned to the semifinals for the first time since 2012. She scored her first career goal earlier this year in a win against Assumption that was broadcast on Fox Sports College, and ended up appearing on ESPN's Top 10 plays. Fasanello was also named a First Team selection.

The Adelphi combination of Isabel Sandstrom and Mia York were named Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Sandstrom helped the Panthers win the NE10 regular season title as they finished conference play with a mark of 13-1. They lost in the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Championship, but appear to be in very good position to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament field.

Sandstrom led the NE10 with 15 wins during the season, and her eight shutouts is currently tied for second. She posted a 0.66 goals against average and a save percentage of .831, which were both among the best in the league this fall. She was also named to the conference's First Team.

York, meanwhile, played a big role on the Panthers' back line in her first year on campus. She was a vital member of a team that won the NE10 regular season title, starting every game this season. She scored her first career goal in the team's win versus Merrimack earlier this season. York was named a Second Team All Conference selection and both Sandstrom and York were named to the NE10 All-Rookie team.

SNHU's Elie Monteiro was selected as the conference's Coach of the Year by his peers. Monteiro led the Penmen to the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Championship this season, improving upon their 8th-place finish from a year ago. Eight of Monteiro's players were named All-Conference selections, including a pair of First Team selections and Fasanello being tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year.
