Defending Regular Season Champion Panthers Picked to Win NE10 Title

MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the third straight year, Adelphi has been picked to win the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer title by the league's 15 head coaches. The Panthers posted a 13-1 conference mark a year ago to earn the regular season title, but fell in the Quarterfinal Round of last year's championship. Southern New Hampshire defeated Franklin Pierce, 2-1, in last year's NE10 Championship game.

For complete results of the poll, please see below.

Adelphi received 185 points and 6 first-place votes to narrowly take the top spot. SNHU earned 180 total points, and also garnered six first-place selections from the league's head coaches. Franklin Pierce was picked third as the Ravens received 166 points. The Panthers, Penmen, and Ravens all advanced to the NCAA Tournament field a year ago. Rounding out the top five slots in this year's poll were Saint Rose (158 points) and Assumption (141).

Interestingly, five different NE10 programs received at least one first-place vote in this year's poll. Adelphi, SNHU, Franklin Pierce, Saint Rose, and Assumption each earned at least one vote from a coach to win this year's NE10 title.

Both Adelphi and SNHU are ranked nationally to begin the 2018 campaign. The Panthers are #15 in the United States Soccer Coaches Association Poll, while the Penmen check in at #24.

The 2018 soccer season begins on Thursday, August 30 for seven of the league's 15 members. The 2018 NE10 Championship will begin with Quarterfinal Round action on Tuesday, October 30. Semifinal Round play is scheduled to take place on Friday, Novemeber 2, and the NE10 Championship Final is slated for Sunday, Nov. 4.
