Heavyweights to Meet in NE10 Championship Final Sunday Afternoon

Second-seeded Adelphi rolled to an impressive win in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals with an impressive 5-1 win, while top-seeded Stonehill survived against upset-minded Le Moyne. Here's how Friday's action took place:

1 Stonehill 5, #5 Le Moyne 4

EASTON, Mass. - Stonehill's Nicole Downey won a three-set match at No. 4 singles to send the top-seeded Skyhawks to the Championship Finals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. They'll face a familiar foe in the championship match, Adelphi, who they've faced each of the last two years.

Fifth-seeded Le Moyne, who upset fourth-seeded Assumption earlier in the week, took a 2-1 advantage into singles play. It would be Downey's win though at No. 4 that would end the match and send the Skyhawks through to Sunday's Championship.

2 Adelphi 5, #3 Southern New Hampshire 1

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.  -  Adelphi will get the chance to win a third straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, after the second-seeded Panthers defeated third-seeded Southern New Hampshire, 5-1, on home court in the semifinals.

The Panthers will face top seeded Stonehill in Easton, Mass. in the championship final, after the regular season champions rallied to beat Le Moyne in a tense semifinal, 5-4. Sunday's championship is a rematch of the last two NE10 finals, both won by the Panthers. The 2015 championship was played on Long Island, with Adelphi winning 5-2, before the Panthers traveled to Massachusetts to win the 2016 title, 5-4.

NE10 Player of the Year Rebecca Fakas clinched the Adelphi (13-1) victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anna Sala at No.1 singles, as Adelphi won the three completed singles matches in straight sets. The Brown and Gold led 2-1 heading into singles, winning at No.2 and No.1 before SNHU (11-4) got on the board with a win at No.3.

Nicole Kielan defeated Kaitlyn Poje, 6-3, 6-2 to kick singles off for Adelphi, before Elizabeth Kallenberg followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sofia Morais at No. 2.
